Joel Pritchard, a congressman, and his friend Bill Bell, a successful businessman, were looking for a way to entertain their bored families during the summer. With a badminton court but no shuttlecock in sight, they improvised by using a perforated plastic ball and paddles made from plywood.
Initial Gameplay
The initial game was a hodgepodge of rules borrowed from various sports. The net was set at badminton height, and the players used wooden paddles to hit the ball. Over time, they lowered the net and adjusted the rules to make the game more dynamic and engaging.
Involvement of Barney McCallum
